Herman Bogman was educated by his father, painter H.C.C. Bogman, and at the Academy for Decorative Arts in The Hague. Bogman was mentored by the renowned painter and graphic artist Willem de Zwart.

His colorite is delicate and balanced, never dull. He specialised in cityscapes and, lateron, working with watercolour. His bouquets are a favourite topic.
